Former attorney Ed Auler and his wife, Susan, are involved in numerous business activities in Texas, namely real estate, ranching, oil and gas, and since 1975, Fall Creek Vineyards. Ed purchased four hundred acres of land for Fall Creek Vineyards in an area with a unique soil and microclimate on the northwest shores of Lake Buchanan in Llano County after a trip in 1973 to France made him aware of the similarities of the terroir between the Hill Country and France. Ed has combined European winemaking traditions and California technological innovations
to produce world-class wines that are highly successful in the marketplace. Ed Auler was the first person to bring wine growing to the Texas Hill Country, and he established
the “Texas Hill Country” appellation in 1989. Fall Creek Vineyards has been at the forefront of the Texas wine industry, both in terms of awards and sales, and is the third largest winery in sales in Texas.
Ed has been president of TGGA, Director of the American Vintners Association, and Chairman of the Associated Wineries of Texas, as well as founder with his wife, Susan,
of the Texas Hill Country Wine and Food Festival. He received the 1989 Louis F. Qualia award for Outstanding Contributions to the Texas Wine Industry. He and Susan
were named “Who’s Who in Food and Wine in Texas and People of Vision” by the Texas Society to Prevent Blindness. They have received numerous other honors and recognitions.
