Texas’ bounty and creativity is showcased at this outdoor event held in conjunction with the Austin Farmers' Market Downtown. Chefs from Texas and the US will be paired with local Central Texas farmers and meat and cheese producers for a celebration of freshness and homegrown products. Guest chef John Ash and the author Jeff Cox (Organic Cooks’ Bible) will join Texas chefs David McMillan of 62 Main, Mark Paul of Wink and many more. Sample the dishes of a dozen restaurants that have utilized the fresh produce, eggs, meats and cheeses of Texas food artisans. Estate-grown wines from Texas, New Mexico, California and South Africa will be paired with the chefs’ specialties. After filling up on the freshest the state has to offer, walk the Austin Farmers Market and purchase the makings of your own culinary creation. Get your feet stomping and hands clapping to the original folk and bluegrass of Austin Family Jewels. This event is co-produced with the Sustainable Food Center with support from Austin Community College District.

Three of Austin’s own gen-x/y wine experts, and winners of Texas’ Best Sommelier competition in 2006, will share the secrets of their favorite Texas wines at the formal tasting, followed by an interactive meet-and-greet with the winemakers as well as an opportunity to sample more of their wines. Texas' only Master Sommelier, Guy Stout from Houston, will moderate.

This exceptional event presents a vertical of vintages from one of California's premier Chardonnay wineries. Talbott Vineyards firmly adheres to a painstaking, small lot, hands on, traditional Burgundian approach to winemaking that has resulted in wines that are sought out by the most sophisticated wine buyers and applauded by the most discerning critics. Join Robb Talbott as he discusses the history of Talbott and its approach to wine, and shares from the winery library, 6 vintages of the single vineyard-designated Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay, from 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000, all poured from magnums. Ridge Vineyards has been recognized worldwide as one of California’s iconic wineries, even before the recent re-enactment of the Judgement of Paris in 2006, where its Ridge Monte Bello Cabernet Sauvignon 1971 was deemed the top wine. Winemaker Paul Draper has been at the helm for more than 35 years, making great wines from what might now be classed as heritage wine sites. John Olney, winemaker for Ridge’s Lytton Springs will lead a vertical tasting of Lytton Springs Zinfandel from 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996 and 1997. (Vintages subject to change)

The most unique event hosted by The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas each year is The Rare & Fine Wine Auction. Held at the stunning Four Seasons Hotel, the auction attracts wine enthusiasts throughout the state who are eager to bid on over 300 auction lots, such as wines from private cellars, dinners, trips and items from around the world.

Rare collectibles of Old World classics such as 1st Growth Bordeaux, Grand Cru Burgundy, Vintage Port and legendary Italians are offered up with New World luminaries like California Cult classics, top Oregon Pinot Noir, luscious Washington and Australian reds as well as the best Texas has to offer. Wine tour vacations to Europe and North America will be featured, as well as spectacular wine tastings and gourmet wine dinners hosted in the state’s best private cellars and most exciting restaurants.

Auction proceeds benefit KLRU-TV Public Television and The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas’ mission to inspire excellence and education in the culinary and viticulture arts through scholarships, grants and the development of educational programs and projects. Since its inception 23 years ago, the Auction has raised millions of dollars towards these goals. In 2005, the Foundation launched its $25,000 Grant Awards Program for innovative and educational projects in wine and food within Texas and continues this program annually.
